Rev. Dr. Jason L. Brooks was born on November 11, 1982 in Brooklyn, NY to Jeanette Grant and Leslie Brooks. He attended Arista Prep School in Brooklyn until the age of 12 when his family moved to the beautiful town of Piscataway, NJ. Before graduating from Piscataway High School, he became a Vice President in the ‘Peer Mediation’ counseling forum which advocated for a peaceful conflict resolution between fellow high school students. In addition, he was instrumental in organizing cultural diversity training and events for the community under this program.
In his early twenties, he became the leader of the S.T.A.R.S. Teen Initiative at New Life Center of Truth in Brooklyn, NY under the direction of his mentor Rev. Dr. Evelyn R. John. As the group’s leader, he led several teaching and discussion forums encouraging the young men and women to expand their minds and hearts on various matters affecting society. He also created dance choreography which they performed at various church and local Caribbean diaspora events throughout the year. More famously, he put together the church’s annual Christmas concerts in which he would write, produce, direct, and sometimes, even star in plays that the young men and women of the group would perform to great acclaim.
Outside of the church, Dr. Brooks became the Vice President of the ‘Our Youth’ organization with locations in both Jersey City, NJ and New York City. The primary function of this group was to give LGBT+ teenagers a place to come and be themselves. It provided employment assistance and a place to live for those teenagers whose parents would kick them out of the house simply for living their truth. Additionally, the group hosted monthly shows that would raise money to give scholarships to LGBT+ youth in Jersey City, NJ and the surrounding areas. His work with these youth programs earned him several awards and recognition including one from the International Lions Organization who awarded him their Humanitarian Award in 2010.
Dr. Brooks earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from the University of Phoenix. During that time, he kept his place on the Dean’s list and was selected to become a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) and the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS). He is a proud member of the AMM association and a monk and minister at the University of Healing/God Unlimited Church in Campo, CA where he holds a Doctorate of Metaphysics and his Certification of Ordination.
With all of these wonderful accomplishments, Dr. Brooks is still looking forward to the work still to be done in his ministry.
